1999 Annual Program

CALA Southwest Chapter is pleased to announce our Feature Speaker and Program for the upcoming TLA (Texas Library Association) Annual Conference in April 1999:

Speaker: Ms. Monica Wong
Head Librarian, Northwest Center
El Paso Community College
Title: Libraries in a War Zone
Date: April 22, 1999
Time: 11:00 am – 11:50 am
Place: Dallas, Texas

Summary:
Reporting on the experiences gained from a 1997 ALA fellowship in Israel, Monica Wong, Head librarian of The El Paso Community College, will discuss the concepts of making library knowledge available to all, regardless of social problems, through Networking, computer databases, and modern library practices, such as interlibrary loan. Tied to this will be the presenter’s unique perspective on Israeli/Arab cultural differences that compound the problems of libraries in a war zone, and her discussion of the vast differences between the Arab and Jewish cities that translate to a modern Tale of Two Cities.

We are also extending our sincere invitation to anyone who are interested to join us in Dallas in April, 22, 1999. For more information, please contact me directly.
